The Zeniya Gohei Memorial Museum displays personal items, historical documents, and photographs that tell the story of this influential Japanese merchant and engineer.
During the Edo period, Zeniya Gohei established a coastal shipping fleet of kitamae ships, which enhanced trade operations for the Tokugawa shogunate until 1852.
The museum exhibits introduce visitors to traditional Japanese commerce practices and maritime trade through artifacts from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Located in Kanazawa, the museum opens daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except Tuesdays between December and April, with admission fees of 500 yen.
The collection includes materials related to the 1851 Kahoku Lake reclamation project, which led to the mysterious dead fish incident and Gohei's imprisonment.
