Sugadaira Highlands

Sugadaira Highlands encompasses a plateau situated between 1300 and 1500 meters elevation, bordered by Mount Azumaya at 2354 meters and Mount Neko at 2207 meters.

The region evolved from a natural training ground into a dedicated sports center, featuring facilities for rugby teams that have trained there since the early 20th century.

The highlands serve as a meeting point for athletes across multiple disciplines, including rugby, soccer, tennis, and track and field throughout the four seasons.

Visitors can reach Sugadaira by taking the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Ueda Station, followed by a 50-minute bus ride through the mountainous terrain.

The winter temperatures drop below -10 degrees Celsius in January, creating conditions similar to those found in the Swiss Alps of Davos.
