Nonaka Kofun

Nonaka Kofun is a square-shaped burial mound measuring about 37 meters on each side located in the Osaka region. The burial chamber lies beneath the raised earth, enclosed and protected by surrounding ditches.

This mound was built in the 5th century and belongs to the Furuichi Tomb Cluster. It represents an important phase when Japan was developing a more organized state structure.

Local people once simply called this place a wooded grove without understanding its importance. Today the mound's form shows how people of that era honored and laid their dead to rest.

The site is easy to reach on foot and has clear landmarks around the mound itself. Comfortable walking shoes are helpful as you explore the grounds surrounding the monument.

Archaeological excavations from 1964 uncovered armor, iron tools, and pottery from the burial chamber. These findings demonstrate close connections between Japan, China, and Korea during that era.
