Bokeyama Kofun

Bokeyama Kofun is an ancient keyhole-shaped burial mound in Fujiidera featuring a rectangular section connected to a circular mound at the front. The site displays terraced stone layers that define each section and mark the boundaries of this earthen monument.

This burial ground was constructed in the mid-3rd century and housed a double interment within a stone chamber built from river rocks. The careful construction reflects the importance of those laid to rest within this ancient site.

The discovery of ceremonial mirrors, bronze arrows, and iron weapons within the tomb indicates the elevated social status of the individuals buried at this location.

The site is accessible via public transportation, particularly from nearby train stations connected to the JR rail network. Visitors can walk around the grounds to view the monument's structure and different sections from various angles.

A large wooden coffin made from kaya timber was discovered within the burial chamber, accompanied by pottery arranged in a deliberate pattern. This careful placement shows the reverence given to the person interred at this location.
