Bokeyama Kofun

The Bokeyama Kofun extends 80 meters in length with a circular portion measuring 60 meters in diameter, featuring stone-laid surfaces and terrace formations.

Dating back to the mid-3rd century, this keyhole-shaped tomb contained a double burial structure with a stone chamber made of river rocks covered by wooden beams.

The discovery of ceremonial mirrors, bronze arrows, and iron weapons within the tomb indicates the elevated social status of the individuals buried at this location.

The archaeological site is accessible through the JR Sakurai Line, with Makimuku Station serving as the primary access point for visitors exploring the ancient burial ground.

Researchers uncovered a kaya timber coffin measuring 6.5 meters in length and 2.6 meters in width, accompanied by arranged pottery with specific decorative patterns.
