Mount Iimori

Mount Iimori rises 314 meters above Aizuwakamatsu and offers visitors several routes to reach the summit. The paths lead past monuments, graves, and viewing points that structure the climb and provide places to stop.

The hill marks events from 1868 when young samurai died here after receiving mistaken news about their city. This moment became a defining memory from the Boshin War period.

The site honors young samurai whose story shaped how people understand loyalty and sacrifice in Japanese history. Visitors come here to reflect on these ideals and pay their respects at the graves scattered across the slope.

The climb can be adjusted based on fitness level since multiple options are available. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time to pause at various stopping points along the way.

The Sazaedo Temple on the northern slope features an unusual double-spiral structure where visitors ascend and descend on completely separate ramps. This architectural feature makes the experience different from a typical climb.
