Ryūbi-ji

Ryūbi-ji is a Buddhist temple in Sosa that houses a bronze statue of Yakushi Nyorai from the Hakuho period, along with the foundational base of a pagoda. The site displays architectural elements typical of early Japanese temple construction.

The temple was founded in 661 and became a major center for Shingon Buddhism. Archaeological work uncovered remnants of a three-story pagoda from 1377 that may have reached heights of around 33 meters.

The temple maintains strong connections to Shingon-shu Chisan-ha practices and serves as an educational center for over 200 Buddhist monks.

The temple is accessible by public transportation and located in an area suited for exploring Buddhist heritage. Visitors should allow adequate time to view the excavation site and remaining structures at a leisurely pace.
