Itabashi Azusawa Gymnasium, Sports venue in Itabashi-ku, Japan.
Itabashi Azusawa Gymnasium is an indoor sports venue located in the Azusawa area of Itabashi ward, in northern Tokyo. It has a main court for competitions and additional areas used for training, with seating for around 1,000 spectators arranged around the court.
The gymnasium opened in 1968, making it one of the older public sports facilities in northern Tokyo. Over the following decades it grew into a regular venue for regional competitions.
The gym is a regular home for local basketball clubs and community sports events in Itabashi. On match days, the stands fill with local supporters and the energy of the crowd is easy to feel from the moment you walk in.
The gym can be reached by bus from JR Akabane Station or on foot from Shimurasakaue Station on the Toei Mita Line. If you are visiting for the first time, plan a few extra minutes to find the entrance once you arrive in the area.
A professional basketball team played its home games here for several years before moving to another city in 2020. The departure left a gap that locals still talk about when discussing the future of the facility.
