Arakawa Bridge

Arakawa Bridge is a railway bridge made of granite and brick that crosses the Arakawa River to connect the Chichibu rail line. The structure spans the waterway, with its arches visible from both banks below.

Construction took place in 1914 after the Chichibu rail route had to be relocated due to unstable ground conditions on the river's left side. This shift in planning necessitated the bridge crossing at this particular location.

The Arakawa Bridge stands as a representation of early twentieth-century Japanese engineering methods, demonstrating the integration of traditional materials with modern design.

The bridge can be reached by a nine-minute walk from Chichibu Railway Oyahana Station or about four minutes from Kami-Nagatoro Station. Both routes are straightforward and follow the train line area.

The bridge retains its original granite and brick components, though concrete reinforcements were added later to handle modern train loads safely. This blend of old and new materials shows how the structure adapted to changing transportation demands.
