Sekkoji, Buddhist temple in Katsuragi, Japan.

Sekkoji Temple features traditional Japanese architectural elements and houses numerous stone Buddha statues at the base of Mount Nijo in Nara Prefecture.

The temple, established in the early 7th century, contains some of the oldest stone Buddha sculptures in Japan, marking the initial spread of Buddhism.

The temple grounds maintain over 4,000 peony trees representing 420 different varieties, which form an essential part of Japanese garden traditions.

Visitors can reach the temple by taking a train to Katsuragi Station and following the marked path through the town's historical district.

The temple includes a historical well called Somenoi, where Princess Chujo reportedly dyed lotus threads for weaving the sacred Taima Mandara.
