Oshika Gobansho Park, Coastal park in Ayukawahama, Japan.
Oshika Gobansho Park is a coastal park at the southern end of the Oshika Peninsula, positioned to face the Pacific Ocean. The site features views toward Ajijima, Tashiro Island, and Kinkazan, and includes a covered observation deck with benches that overlooks these landmarks.
The park was established in 1992 to serve as a viewpoint over ancient maritime routes that fishing communities had used for generations. Its location marks a centuries-long connection between the region and the ocean.
The Milky Way Bridge leads to an observation deck where visitors can watch sunsets over the ocean, a valued practice in Japanese culture. Watching the sun disappear into the sea is something that brings people to this spot throughout the year.
The park provides free parking for about 30 vehicles and covered seating areas on the observation deck for protection from the elements. A visit typically takes around 30 minutes, and navigation is straightforward since the main viewing area is easily accessible from the parking area.
This is one of the few places in Miyagi Prefecture where visitors can watch sunsets over the ocean, a perspective that owes everything to the peninsula's geography. The bridge with its poetic name guides people directly to this rare vantage point.
