The Asaka Retention Basin is a flood control facility along the Shingashi River in the city of Asaka. The structure can hold up to 530,000 cubic meters of water during heavy rainfall events.
Construction of this retention facility started in 1980 and was completed in 2008. The project represented a major regional effort to improve flood protection in the area.
The basin features walking paths and viewing areas where visitors can watch water birds and notice the natural environment developing around the water. Local people use these spaces to enjoy time outdoors and connect with the seasonal changes in nature.
You can walk along the basin and its surrounding areas on foot, with most paths being fairly level and easy to navigate. The site is open throughout the year and offers changing views depending on the season.
