Happiring, Commercial complex at JR Station, Fukui, Japan
Happiring is a mixed-use building opened in 2015 next to Fukui Station, reaching about 91 meters tall. It spreads across several floors with retail shops, restaurants, event spaces, and a planetarium.
Happiring was built as part of a large redevelopment of the area around Fukui Station, which had long needed renewal. It opened in 2015 and became one of the main results of the city's effort to bring new life to its downtown.
The building has a dedicated performance hall where traditional Japanese arts such as koto music and Noh theater are regularly presented. Visitors can watch these local art forms without leaving the station area.
The building stands right next to Fukui Station, so it is easy to reach by train or on foot from the city center. Parking is available on site for those arriving by car.
Inside the building is the Seiren Planet planetarium, which offers astronomical exhibits and space education programs alongside the shops and restaurants. A planetarium tucked inside a station-side commercial complex is something you do not see every day.
