Katsuyama Dinosaur Forest Park, Dinosaur and urban park in Katsuyama, Japan.
Katsuyama Dinosaur Forest Park is a woodland park in the city where more than 50 life-size dinosaur models line a walking route through natural forest. The path extends about 460 meters and includes information displays and activity stations alongside the figures.
The park was established following numerous fossil discoveries in the region beginning in 1989, including complete skeletons of Fukuiraptor and Fukuisaurus. These findings made the city a center for dinosaur research and public interest in the subject.
The park functions as a learning space where visitors of all ages discover prehistoric life through hands-on exhibits and interactive displays. The activities are designed for families and make knowledge accessible through direct engagement.
The park is easy to reach and the route can be walked in two to three hours depending on your pace and interest level. Wear comfortable shoes, as the path goes through wooded terrain that can be slippery, especially after rain.
Visitors can join fossil excavation activities led by local experts in designated areas of the park. This hands-on experience lets people try actual digging techniques and unearth materials themselves.
