Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, Dinosaur museum in Katsuyama, Japan.
The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is a paleontological museum in Katsuyama that occupies a large pillarless space displaying dinosaur skeletons and scientific reconstructions. The building was designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa and houses collections from the region, which is known for its dinosaur fossil discoveries.
The museum opened on July 14, 2000, in Katsuyama Dinosaur Forest Park after numerous dinosaur fossils were discovered in Fukui Prefecture. The region developed into a center for paleontology in Japan as a result.
Visitors can see life-size dinosaur reconstructions that show how these animals looked and moved millions of years ago. The exhibition rooms guide people through different geological eras, making the evolution of life on Earth easier to understand for children and adults.
The museum opens from 9 to 17, with extended hours during summer holidays. Admission tickets must be purchased in advance for a specific date, and the exhibitions are accessible through a multilingual application.
The museum operates a three-screen Dino Theater that shows films about prehistoric times. The building also stores local fossils from Fukui Prefecture, where several new dinosaur species have been discovered.
