The Hirosawa City

The Hirosawa City is a sprawling leisure compound in Chikusei that brings together galleries, a golf course, barbecue grounds, and exhibition pavilions. The grounds combine cultural buildings with open farmland and recreation zones spread across dozens of hectares.

The Hirosawa family began developing the complex in the 1970s, gradually opening the sprawling grounds to the public. In recent years, new museum pavilions and exhibition halls were added, giving the compound a stronger cultural focus.

The compound takes its name from the Hirosawa family, who shaped the land over generations and remain tied to the region. In the workshops and open pavilions, visitors can try their hand at farming practices and crafts that reflect daily life in rural Japan.

The complex is best reached by car and offers ample parking for visitors. The different zones are spread far apart, so comfortable shoes help when walking between pavilions and outdoor areas.

One part of the grounds holds a collection of historic railway vehicles, including locomotives and passenger cars from different eras. Visitors can step inside the carriages and inspect the driver cabs up close, getting a sense of how trains were built decades ago.
