塩竈市立浦戸小中学校, Combined elementary and junior high school in Shiogama, Japan.
Shiogama's combined elementary and junior high school on Nonoshima Island brings together younger and older students in an integrated educational setting. The facility operates with three classes that serve both school levels within a shared learning environment.
The school was founded in 2005 as a combined facility serving both elementary and junior high students on the island. In 2015, it shifted to an integrated education system that brought the two school levels even closer together.
The school is known for its annual ACT program where students create and perform original theatrical productions that reflect local nature, traditions, and the history of the Urato region. These performances show how students connect with and understand their surroundings.
Students reach the school by municipal ferry departing Shiogama pier at 7:15 AM, with the crossing taking about 15 minutes to Nonoshima pier. A short walk from the pier leads directly to the school.
Every enrolled student commutes from outside the island through a special enrollment system that allows attendance without changing residential address. This makes the school a hub for families across the broader Shiogama region.
