Shikoku Aquarium, Public aquarium in Utazu, Japan.
Shikoku Aquarium is a public aquarium in Utazu displaying marine life from the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific in large tanks. The facility combines filtration and life-support technology to recreate different water conditions.
The facility opened on April 1st, 2020, in Utazu Seaside Park near the Seto Ohashi Bridge. The location provides direct access to the inland sea and coastline that define its operation.
The Shimanto and Niyodo river exhibits show the ecosystem that was central to farming and fishing across Shikoku. Visitors see today species that still live in these waterways and shape the region.
The complex opens daily from 9 am to 6 pm and provides parking for over 200 vehicles. The walkways and viewing tanks are arranged on a single level, making it easier to move through the facility.
Some tanks simulate the exact salinity and temperature shifts of the Seto Inland Sea during tidal cycles. This replication allows species with specific needs to thrive here over time.
