Japan Sport Olympic Square, Office building in Kasumigaoka, Japan
Japan Sport Olympic Square is an office building with 14 floors above ground and one basement level in Kasumigaoka. The structure features large glass walls and adjustable louver systems that allow natural light and shade to be controlled throughout the day.
The building was completed in April 2019 and replaced the former Kishi Memorial Gymnasium that previously stood on this site. It was designed to function as an administrative center for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The Japan Olympic Museum on the lower floors displays exhibits about Japanese athletes and their achievements in international competitions. The displays show how sports have grown in importance across Japanese society over the years.
The building houses the Japan Sport Association and Japanese Olympic Committee, so access to administrative areas is restricted to staff. Visitors can explore the Olympic Museum in the lower floors, which is easily reached from the main entrance.
Bronze statues of Pierre de Coubertin and Kano Jigoro stand outside the building, honoring the founders of the modern Olympic movement and judo. Nearby are replica Olympic cauldrons from Tokyo 1964, Sapporo 1972, and Nagano 1998.
