Awaji Farm Park England Hill, Agricultural park and zoo in Minamiawaji, Japan
Awaji Farm Park England Hill is a recreation park and zoo on Awaji Island in Minamiawaji, Japan, combining animal enclosures, flower gardens, greenhouses, and farming experiences. The grounds are divided into several zones, each with a different focus, giving visitors a range of things to see and do in one place.
The park opened in 2001 as one of the first facilities on Awaji Island to combine animal encounters with farm-based activities. This concept was new to the region at the time and helped draw visitors to the southern part of the island.
The park is designed around a rural English theme, which shapes the look of the buildings, gardens, and general layout. Alongside this, visitors can take part in hands-on farming activities tied to Awaji Island, including harvesting the local onions the island is known for.
The park is laid out with clearly marked zones, making it easy to navigate on your own without a guide. Comfortable shoes are a good idea, and setting aside most of a day gives you enough time to walk through all the areas without rushing.
The park is one of the few places in Japan where koalas can be seen, as these animals are kept at only a small number of facilities in the country. They spend most of their time resting, so timing your visit around feeding hours gives you a better chance of seeing them active.
