Romancecar Museum, Railway museum in Megumichō, Ebina, Japan
The Romancecar Museum is a railway museum in Megumichō, Ebina, Japan, operated by Odakyu Electric Railway. It displays historic express trains, miniature models of the route network, and hands-on sections that guide visitors through the development of rail travel in the Kantō region.
The facility opened in April 2021 to preserve the story of Odakyu express trains that have run since 1927. The exhibited vehicles date from different decades and document technical progress in the field of electric rail operations in Japan.
The name stems from the English term romance car, which refers to the idea of relaxation and comfort during the journey. The exhibit shows how the design of these trains changed over decades as they carried commuters and travelers on the route between Tokyo and the mountains.
The entrance sits directly next to Ebina Station and is easily visible from the platform. The halls are laid out on a single level so that all areas are accessible without stairs, and most explanations are also available in English.
A large diorama in the back section recreates the entire Odakyu line from Shinjuku to Odawara and Hakone in scale. The miniature landscape shows stations, bridges, and tunnels that many visitors recognize from their own journeys.
