Sōzen-ji, Buddhist temple in Sugamo, Japan
The temple features a main hall with traditional architecture, surrounded by stone lanterns and carefully maintained gardens within its grounds.
Founded in 1624 during the Edo period, Sōzen-ji belongs to the Soto Zen sect and continues to maintain its original Buddhist practices.
Sōzen-ji organizes monthly religious festivals on the 4th, 14th, and 24th days, bringing together the local community for ceremonies.
The temple's main hall remains open from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, with direct access from the neighboring Jizo-Dori shopping street.
Nine Buddhist priests, including students training for temple management, maintain the spiritual practices and teachings at Sōzen-ji.
