Kagaku-ji, Buddhist temple in Nishio, Japan.
Located in Aichi Prefecture, Kagaku-ji features traditional Japanese temple architecture with a main hall and stone-carved Buddhist statues across its grounds.
Established in 1271 by Ashikaga Mitsuji as a family temple for the Kira clan, Kagaku-ji received guidance from Shoichi Kokushi who founded Tofuku-ji in Kyoto.
The temple maintains a collection of cultural assets including the Hachiyo Hotakugata Bonsho temple bell and a Nyoirin Kannon statue from medieval periods.
The temple holds an annual flower festival called Buddha-san on the second Sunday of April, when visitors can view Buddhist statues including Shaka Sanzon.
Priests from Kagaku-ji introduced tea cultivation to Nishio region in 1271, establishing a connection between Buddhism and local agricultural practices.
