Ryugen-ji, Pure Land Buddhist temple in Minato-ku, Japan
The three-story wooden pagoda of Ryugen-ji Temple incorporates traditional Japanese architectural elements with carved roof supports and detailed exterior ornamentation.
The temple was established in 1600 by Inaba Sadamichi, the first lord of Usuki Domain, and underwent major reconstruction during the Meiji period following fires.
The temple maintains a dedicated space for zazen meditation practices and houses a significant statue of Prince Shotoku within its pagoda structure.
The temple grounds open daily from sunrise to sunset, with regular meditation sessions scheduled on Saturday mornings for both experienced practitioners and beginners.
Devils with distinct facial expressions support the pagoda roofs, making it one of two remaining Edo-period three-story wooden pagodas in the Kyushu region.
