Halyk Arena, Indoor sports stadium in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Halyk Arena is an indoor multipurpose venue in Almaty, Kazakhstan, built to host both sports competitions and large entertainment events. The central floor can be configured as an ice rink or converted into courts for other sports, with seating arranged around it for over 3,000 spectators.
The arena opened in 2016 and was used the following year as a competition venue for the 2017 Winter Universiade, an international student sports event held in Almaty. Hosting that event gave the building an early role in large-scale international sports.
The arena draws a wide mix of visitors, from sports fans to concert-goers, and is one of the few indoor venues in Almaty large enough for major events. On event nights, the area around the building fills with people and a strong sense of anticipation.
The venue is reachable by public transport and has parking nearby for those arriving by car. Getting there a little early is a good idea, as the entrance area can get busy before major events.
The arena sits within a larger sports complex that also contains an aquatic center, which operates as a separate facility on the same grounds. This means a single visit to the site can take in two different sports venues at once.
