Klaipėda Lighthouse, Maritime navigation structure in Klaipėda, Lithuania.
Klaipėda Lighthouse is a maritime navigation structure that stands 40 meters high above the Baltic Sea coast. The cylindrical tower features white and black bands running along its surface, with a red lantern mounted at the top.
The tower was built in 1796 and ranks among the oldest structures still standing on the Baltic coast. A complete reconstruction took place in 1953, which modernized its internal systems and extended its operational life.
The lighthouse serves as a recognizable landmark that frames the harbor skyline and gives the waterfront a distinctive character. Many local residents and visitors use the surrounding area for walks and photos, making it a visual centerpiece of the port district.
The lighthouse stands directly at the harbor and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. The best views are from the nearby quays and waterfront promenade, where you can see and photograph the tower from multiple angles.
The original lighting system used six bronze reflectors, which were later replaced by thirteen silver-brass plates combined with kerosene lamps. This evolution in lighting technology reveals how maritime navigation equipment changed over time at this site.
