Varniai Bridge, Transport bridge in Vilijampolė and Žaliakalnis districts, Lithuania
The Varniai Bridge is a six-lane road bridge that crosses the Neris River in Kaunas. It spans roughly 330 meters between the Vilijampolė and Žaliakalnis districts and is about 25 meters wide.
This bridge was built in 1983 and replaced an older temporary structure called the Eiguliai bridge that had connected the two districts before World War II. The new construction was part of Kaunas's modern infrastructure development during the Soviet period.
The bridge functions as a central meeting point between different communities in Kaunas, connecting residential areas with business districts across the Neris River.
The bridge can be crossed on foot and offers views of the river and city from the middle section. Those exploring the area on foot should note that while a pedestrian path exists, the bridge carries heavy vehicle traffic.
The structure provides direct access to both the elevated Žaliakalnis district and the riverside Vilijampolė area, creating an essential link in Kaunas transportation network.
