Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Church, Kaunas, Catholic church in Eiguliai district, Kaunas, Lithuania
Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Church is a Catholic church building located in the Eiguliai district of Kaunas, situated at the intersection of P. Lukšio and S. Žukausko streets near the western edge of Kalniečiai Park. It features a varying height design that creates distinct sections within the overall structure.
Construction began in May 2001 under Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius, with architect Rymantas Zimkus and engineer Algis Kazlauskas directing the work. The project continued until 2014, shaping the religious landscape of the district over more than a decade.
The parish marks three major celebrations throughout the year: the feast of Blessed Archbishop Jurgis Matulaitis on January 27, Divine Mercy Sunday, and the Assumption of Mary on August 15. These occasions bring the community together and shape the rhythm of religious life here.
The building received modern systems including geothermal heating since 2015 and complete exterior insulation with facade work finished by 2016. Outdoor lighting was added in 2018 to illuminate the church in the evening and help visitors navigate the area after dark.
The structure combines a single-story nave section with a two-story chapel area, creating separate spaces for different worship functions. This arrangement allows multiple religious activities to occur simultaneously while maintaining distinct environments within one building.
