Vestagebouw, Arnhem, Neo-classical office building in Jansbinnensingel, Netherlands
The Vestagebouw is a neo-classical office building on Jansbinnensingel in Arnhem with brick facades laid in Flemish bond and recessed joints. A basalt lava plinth and copper-clad lantern on the roof complete the building's classical architectural design.
The building was constructed in 1930 following the demolition of three eclectic-style villas, an event documented by a marble plaque inside. This transformation of the site reflects the urban development of that era.
Stained glass windows by Jaap Gidding at the entrance portray family scenes using warm earth tones. These artworks shape the first impression and give the space a personal character.
The building functions as office space with various business establishments including the Westermeijer Groep. Its location on a central inner-city street makes it easily accessible.
Sculptor Gijs Jacobs van den Hof created detailed stone reliefs depicting Vesta, the Roman goddess of hearth and home, adorning the entrance portico. This symbolic connection to protection and family makes the building more than just an office structure.
