Talvik Church, Heritage church building in Talvik, Norway
Talvik Church is a white wooden building constructed in 1883 and sits near the Altafjorden fjord and European route E06. The structure has seating capacity for around 300 people and displays the typical elongated design of a parish church.
The present church was built in 1883 under the architectural direction of Jacob Wilhelm Nordan and replaced older buildings from 1691. After World War II, it remained the only surviving structure in Talvik.
The church serves the local Talvik community as a central place for religious celebrations and gatherings. People from the area gather here regularly for services and important life events.
The church is located at Mellomgjerdet 1 in Talvik and is accessible to visitors. Its position near European route E06 makes it easy to reach.
The building survived German explosions during World War II with minimal damage, making it a rare testament to local history. The fact that it remained largely intact while most other structures in the area were destroyed makes it a striking remnant of that period.
