Altafjord

The Altafjord stretches for 38 kilometers into the Norwegian mainland, featuring steep cliffs and reaching depths of 488 meters below sea level.

British historians referred to this water formation as Altenfjord throughout most of the twentieth century, marking its significance in maritime documentation.

Rock carvings found along the fjord's shores at Jiepmaluokta Bay demonstrate the presence of ancient settlements in this northern Norwegian region.

The Alta River flows into the southern part of the fjord near Alta city, while smaller localities like Rafsbotn and Kvenvik line its shores.

The fjord divides into seven smaller sections including Langfjorden, Kåfjord, Skillefjord, Korsfjorden, Komagfjorden, Store Lerresfjord, and Lille Lerresfjord.
