Kala Chitta National Park

Kala Chitta National Park covers a rocky landscape of hills, grasslands, and forests that form part of the Kala Chitta mountain range. The terrain contains multiple hiking trails and facilities designed for visitors who want to explore the area on foot or stay overnight.

The park was officially designated as a national park in 2009, marking a key step in protecting the local ecosystem. This official status helped ensure that the natural environment and wildlife habitats would be preserved for the future.

The mountain range name comes from local geology, where Kala means black and Chitta means white, referring to the colors of the rocks you see along the slopes. This naming reflects how communities connected the landscape's appearance to everyday language.

Scientists have found important fossils from the Eocene epoch in the Kuldana Formation within the park, including early whale relatives that lived millions of years ago. These discoveries reveal that the area was once covered by ancient seas where marine mammals roamed.
