Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple, Karachi

Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple is an underground Hindu sanctuary located in Clifton that extends six stories below ground, featuring marble courtyards and multiple staircases throughout its structure. The site sits close to Jehangir Kothari Parade and Bin Qasim Park in the district.

This sanctuary dates back approximately 300 years and remains connected to early chapters of Hindu faith in the region. The site gained significance after Guru Nanak Dev, founder of Sikhism, visited the location for meditation.

This temple holds deep meaning for Karachi's Hindu community, especially during the annual Shivratri festival when thousands of worshippers arrive to participate in prayers and rituals. The site remains an active place of devotion where visitors can observe religious practices and spiritual traditions firsthand.

Access to this site requires prior permission from a committee since it functions as a protected religious space for the community. Visitors need to submit an application in advance before entering the grounds.

A natural freshwater spring flows inside the underground chambers, giving the site a distinctive geological feature that has drawn visitors over centuries. The fifth basement level reportedly contains a tunnel connecting to the nearby Mohatta Palace.
