Wanda Bridge in Kraków, Road bridge in eastern Kraków, Poland.
The Wanda Bridge is a modern road crossing that spans the Vistula River and links the districts of Nowa Huta and Podgórze. It features two lanes for vehicles, measures about 15 meters wide, and provides separate pathways for people walking and cycling.
Construction started in March 2002 but was delayed by flooding in June before the bridge opened in October of that year. The project made use of materials from an old military railway, which shaped both the building approach and the final costs.
The bridge takes its name from Wanda, a legendary Polish queen whose story is woven into local folklore and identity. This connection gives the structure meaning beyond its practical role as a transport link across the river.
Crossing is safest during daylight hours when traffic is predictable and the lit pathways for walkers and cyclists are clearly visible. Stick to the designated routes since vehicle lanes and pedestrian paths are separated on this structure.
The bridge was built more affordably than many other river crossings in the city by reusing materials from an old military railway that once operated in Bydgoszcz. This resourceful approach made the construction process more economical and efficient.
