Eichendorff memorial, Bronze memorial in central Racibórz, Poland.
The Eichendorff memorial features a seated bronze figure holding a notebook and pencil, resting on an oak stump mounted on a red granite base. The sculpture stands at the corner of Młyńska and Mickiewicz streets, positioned in front of the Młyńska Gallery.
An earlier monument was erected in 1909 but vanished after World War II when Soviet forces entered the city. The current statue was installed in 1994 to replace the lost original.
This memorial honors a German Romantic poet whose works were shaped by his childhood spent in the Racibórz region. His verses reflect the natural landscapes and emotions he encountered during those formative years.
The monument is located at a central intersection and is easily accessible to visitors on foot. It can be viewed freely at any time and from multiple angles depending on where you approach from.
The oak stump supporting the seated figure contains a hidden wordplay, as the poet's surname derives from the German word for oak. This design choice cleverly connects the poet's name to the very object on which he sits.
