Market Square, Racibórz

Market Square in Racibórz is a rectangular plaza bordered by multi-story townhouses with ground-floor shops and a column dedicated to the Virgin Mary at its center. The entire surface is paved with cobblestones, creating a unified space where the surrounding buildings frame the open area.

The square emerged after Racibórz received municipal rights in the 13th century and became a hub where merchants and craftspeople conducted business. This role shaped the town's development for centuries to come.

The square functions as a gathering place where daily life unfolds and seasonal events draw crowds throughout the year. Local people and visitors alike come here to shop, eat, or simply sit and watch the rhythm of the city pass by.

The square sustained heavy damage during World War II but its medieval layout and building structures were carefully restored afterward. This reconstruction allowed the place to maintain its historical character and appearance for visitors to experience today.
