Szczecin Voivodeship Office, Administrative building in Szczecin, Poland
The Szczecin Voivodeship Office is a government building in the center of Szczecin, Poland, built in a northern Renaissance style with two towers that rise well above the surrounding streets. The complex brings together several interconnected wings arranged around the site, giving it the scale of a small city block.
Work on the complex began in 1906, after the remains of an older fortification on the site were cleared away, a process that required major earthworks. The building came through World War II without serious damage, which was uncommon for structures of its size in the city.
The main hall and grand staircase inside the building still show the original decorative stonework and ornamental details from the early 20th century. These spaces were designed to convey authority, and that intention remains visible to anyone who steps inside.
The two towers make the building easy to find from several streets in the city center. Because it functions as an active government office, access to the interior is not guaranteed, so it is worth checking in advance whether public visits are possible.
The building rests on concrete foundations that go unusually deep into the ground, a solution required by the unstable soil left behind by the earlier fortification. This type of deep foundation was uncommon in civil construction at the time the building went up.
