Szczecin Terrases, Waterfront esplanade and terraces in Szczecin, Poland.
Szczecin Terraces is a waterfront esplanade in Szczecin, Poland, stretching roughly half a kilometer along the Oder riverbank. The highest viewing platform sits about 19 meters above the water and opens onto sweeping views of port installations and nearby river islands.
The complex was built between 1902 and 1921 on the site of the former Leopold Fort, after the city abandoned its fortifications in 1873. The redesign followed a plan that linked administrative buildings with public open spaces.
The name Hakenterrasse recalls Hermann Haken, the mayor who pushed for the transformation of this area in the early 20th century. Locals use the wide promenades for walks and often pair their visit with watching ships pass on the river.
Walking paths link the terraces to the city center and make orientation along the riverfront straightforward. Tram lines 6 and 11, along with bus routes 70 and 83, stop nearby and simplify the approach.
Two tall columns resembling maritime beacons stand at the lower end of the complex. A fountain adorned with sculptures of Jan z Kolna and Wyszak sits nearby.
