The Rezerwat przyrody Przełomy pod Książem koło Wałbrzycha is a nature reserve with deep gorges carved by the Pełcznica and Szczawnik streams. The terrain spreads across forests containing steep valleys and diverse plant and animal habitats.
The reserve was established in 2000 to protect geological formations millions of years old. Archaeological remains of ancient settlements near Książ Castle show evidence of early human presence in the area.
The Hochberg Path crosses the reserve and honors the noble family who shaped Książ Castle and the surrounding lands. This walking route weaves together the natural landscape with the legacy of the people who once governed it.
Marked hiking trails guide visitors through the reserve and connect various viewpoints overlooking the steep valleys. Wear proper footwear suited for uneven ground and changing elevation throughout your walk.
The reserve is home to the ancient Bolko Yew, a tree with remarkable size that embodies the long timescales of nature. Additionally, eight bat species inhabit underground passages and caverns throughout the area.
