Stud farm of the Książ Castle, Horse stud farm near Książ Castle in Wałbrzych, Poland
The Stud Farm of the Książ Castle is a horse breeding facility in Wałbrzych, located next to Książ Castle and housed in historic stable buildings. The farm breeds thoroughbreds and sport horses, and also offers riding lessons, trail rides, and carriage rides on the grounds.
The stud farm was founded in 1824 by Duke Hochberg and grew into one of the leading horse breeding centers in Silesia over the following decades. In 1935 it passed into Prussian state administration, which continued the breeding operations under new ownership.
The stud farm hosts jumping competitions, dressage events, and driving contests where visitors can watch horse and rider work together in real competition. These gatherings draw a local crowd and give a clear sense of how equestrian sport is still practiced in the region today.
Riding lessons are open to beginners and more experienced riders, so no prior experience is needed to take part. The grounds are large, so wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to walk around and take in the stables and surrounding trails.
The stable buildings where the horses are kept today date back to the 19th century and are themselves listed as an immovable monument. This means that visiting the stud farm also means walking through original historic stable architecture that is protected in its own right.
