Museum of World War II in Gdańsk, Military museum near Westerplatte peninsula, Gdańsk, Poland.

The Museum of World War II in Gdańsk is a modern building located near the Westerplatte peninsula containing roughly 5,000 square meters of exhibition space. The collection spans 18 chronological sections filled with artifacts and multimedia presentations documenting the war.

Construction began in 2012 after the Kwadrat architectural studio won the design competition, and the building opened to the public in 2017. The institution was established to provide visitors with comprehensive understanding of this historical period.

The museum presents multiple national perspectives through displays of personal belongings, uniforms, weapons, and propaganda materials from the war period. Visitors can observe how everyday objects and documents illuminate the experiences of people living through this conflict.

The museum welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday, with free admission available on specific days. Plan enough time to walk through all 18 sections at a comfortable pace and check ahead for any special exhibitions.

The building stands out with three architectural spheres and a 40-meter leaning glass tower that symbolizes the connection between past, present, and future. This striking design makes the museum itself an eye-catching landmark in the city.
