Chapel of Blessed Virgin Mary in Studzieniczna, Renaissance Revival chapel in Augustów, Poland
The Chapel of Blessed Virgin Mary is an octagonal rotunda with Renaissance Revival features situated on an island in Augustów's Studzieniczna district. A constructed levee connects the island to the mainland, providing access to this religious structure.
Built in the 1770s, the chapel replaced an earlier wooden structure that had occupied the same site. It received official monument status in 1980 when registered with authorities in the Podlaskie region.
Inside, visitors can see a copy of Our Lady of Czestochowa from the 18th century adorned with papal crowns blessed in 1995. This link to one of Poland's most revered Marian shrines draws pilgrims seeking spiritual connection.
The chapel is accessible year-round through the levee connecting the island to shore. Comfortable footwear is advisable, and visitors should be prepared for uneven surfaces on the causeway, especially during wet weather.
Next to the chapel stands a water well whose water locals believe has healing properties. This spring attracts visitors throughout the year seeking its supposed beneficial effects.
