Kościół Najświętszej Marii Panny w Grodzisku

The Church of Our Lady in Grodzisko is a building with rectangular Romanesque exterior form and impressive Renaissance vaulting featuring geometric decoration. A three-story marble main altar covers the western wall and serves as the focal point of the interior.

The church was built in 1642 by Poor Clare nuns as a chapel of the Assumption after their earlier monastery had fallen to ruin. This construction marked the reestablishment of a spiritual center at the site.

The site functions as a place where spiritual devotion and historical memory blend through its physical structures. Stone figures and walls within the complex tell stories of rulers and holy figures that held meaning for the region.

The building lies along two marked hiking trails in Ojców National Park, making it easily accessible and a natural stop during walks. Visitors can include the church in their exploration of the surrounding landscape without requiring a detour.

Beside the church stands a granite monument in the form of an obelisk supported by an elephant sculpture carved from a single limestone block. The monument commemorates the 1683 Vienna victory and displays the stone carving skill that craftspeople possessed at that time.
