Ojców Castle

Ojców Castle is a medieval fortress sitting atop limestone cliffs in the Prádnik Valley within a national park. The structure consists of an octagonal tower, a gate building, and defensive walls arranged across the cliff tops.

A 14th-century king ordered this fortress built as part of a defensive line protecting his realm from the north. The stronghold remained a strategic point for the kingdom for centuries afterward.

The fortress served as a key defensive point for the region and continues to shape how people perceive this valley today. Visitors can observe how the structure merges with the limestone cliffs and dominates the character of the Prádnik landscape.

The fortress is located in a scenic ravine and is accessible by foot via a path that climbs from the valley below. Wear sturdy shoes and prepare for steps, especially on wet or muddy days.

The name comes from a Polish phrase meaning 'Father by the Rock' and reflects a personal tribute by the king who founded it. This family-centered naming makes the fortress a personal monument within the larger defensive chain.
