Igła Deotymy, Limestone rock formation in Ojców National Park, Poland
Igła Deotymy is a solitary limestone formation on the eastern bank of the Prádnik stream positioned between Maiden Rocks and Knight Rocks. The needle-shaped structure rises among other distinctive rock formations that define the character of this part of the valley.
The formation received its name in 1853 following the visit of poet Jadwiga Łuszczewska, who wrote under the pseudonym Deotyma and lived nearby. The naming came from a direct connection between the artist and this place.
The needle-shaped rock inspired the Polish poet Jadwiga Łuszczewska when she lived in the Prądnik Valley. Her pen name Deotyma became the permanent name for this striking formation, linking poetry to the place.
The formation stands near residential buildings in the Prádnik Valley and is not open to rock climbing for protection reasons. Visitors can view and photograph the rock formation from the banks, with better results in good lighting conditions.
The surroundings contain rare Ojców birch trees, with only about a dozen specimens documented in this specific location. These specialized trees thrive in the particular conditions of the limestone valley and make the area botanically noteworthy.
