Słońsk, Nature reserve in Gmina Słońsk, Poland
Słońsk is a nature reserve in western Poland featuring wetlands, meadows, and a network of waterways created by the Warta River. These water landscapes provide habitat for numerous bird species that inhabit the area year-round.
The area was protected in 1977 and later formed a core part of the Warta Mouth National Park established in 2001. This designation marked the beginning of comprehensive protection for the region's valuable water landscapes.
The reserve maintains traditional ecological monitoring practices, contributing to scientific research and environmental education in western Poland.
Visitors can explore two walking trails that lead through central sections and provide views of the water landscapes. The best time to visit is during cooler months when the trails are accessible and viewing conditions are optimal.
Water levels fluctuate seasonally by up to 4 meters, creating temporary lakes during spring floods in March and April. These dramatic changes make the water landscapes particularly interesting for observing different animal species across different seasons.
