Market Square, Nowy Targ, Central market square in Nowy Targ, Poland.
Market Square in Nowy Targ is a rectangular plaza bordered by eight streets converging at its corners. The 2012 reconstruction added granite paving and created open spaces for outdoor cafes along its edges.
The square was founded in 1346 as the town took shape. After a major fire in 1784 destroyed wooden buildings, brick structures replaced them and defined the square's character.
The Town Hall with its clock tower stands at the center and shapes how people experience the space today. Cafes and restaurants line the perimeter, creating a gathering point where locals and visitors mix throughout the day.
The square is easy to navigate on foot with clear pathways in all directions. There are plenty of seating areas and cafes where you can rest and observe the surroundings.
The Chapel of St. John Cantius was built after the 1784 fire and houses an early 1900s sculpture linked to local folklore. Many visitors pass by without noticing this small but meaningful landmark.
