Casa das Pedras

Casa das Pedras is a four-story house in Parede located on elevated ground next to the coastal road and near the beach. The building displays late romantic design features and was constructed entirely using locally sourced stones with varying textures and colors.

The house was designed and built between 1903 and 1904 by architect Nicola Bigaglia for a Portuguese naval officer. It represents how the coastline near Lisbon became a preferred location for wealthy residences in the early 1900s.

The name comes from the stones used in its construction, and the building reflects the summer residential style that was popular among the wealthy along the coast at that time. Walking around it, you see how local architects blended practical design with romantic influences.

The house is a private residence, so it can only be viewed from outside while walking along the coastal road. The best way to see it is from the promenade near the beach or from Marginal Avenue, which runs directly past the property.

The entire building was constructed using stones collected from nearby beaches, including sandstone, basalt, and limestone that still show signs of sea erosion. These materials greatly shape the house's appearance and make it a visible example of how local resources were used in construction.
