Reformed Church of Farkas Street, Reformed church in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The Reformed Church of Farkas Street features Gothic architecture with soaring vaulted ceilings and pointed arches throughout its interior. The structure is characterized by solid stone walls and contains an organ from the 1700s, which occupies a significant position within the main prayer space.
King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary commissioned this church in 1486, and its construction stretched across several decades. The building was finally completed in 1516 under the direction of Brother Janos, who oversaw the final phase of the work.
This church serves as a gathering place for the reformed Christian community in Cluj-Napoca, and locals regard it as a spiritual center of the city. Regular services held here show how the reformed tradition continues to shape the daily life of worshippers.
This church welcomes visitors daily and offers guided tours that explain its architectural features and historical background. You can spend time examining the stonework details and enjoying the quiet interior before moving on to other areas of the city.
The eastern wall holds a memorial to Prince Michael I Apafi, honoring his importance in the region's history. A statue of Saint George the Dragonslayer stands at the entrance and welcomes visitors to the church.
