Feldioara Fortress

Feldioara Fortress rises on a limestone rock and features solid defensive walls, seven towers, and additional fortified structures protecting the settlement below. The construction displays continuous galleries running along three sides and incorporates advanced surveillance and defense systems throughout its design.

Teutonic Knights established this fortress in 1225 as the first documented defensive fortification in the Burzenland region of Transylvania. This founding marked the start of organized military defense in the developing territory.

The fortress displays architectural features characteristic of German settlers, with solid walls and defensive lookout points positioned for surveillance. Visitors walking through the towers and corridors can observe how these structures protected inhabitants and watched over the valley below.

The site is open daily for visitors to explore, with restored towers and viewing platforms available throughout the grounds. On-site archaeological displays showing chapel foundations and other ancient structures offer insights into what once stood there.

Archaeological digs at the site uncovered traces of settlements from the Neolithic period and the Cucuteni culture. These findings show that people inhabited the area long before the medieval fortress was built.
