Lutheran church of Feldioara

The Lutheran church of Feldioara is a fortress church atop a hill with thick stone walls, narrow windows, and a bell tower resembling the Black Church in Brașov. The structure combines defensive features with religious purpose, positioned prominently above the surrounding landscape.

Founded in the 13th century, this church served as a Romanesque basilica protecting the local population during numerous conflicts in medieval Transylvania. The fortifications were strengthened to withstand attacks and shelter the community during times of danger.

The interior displays crossed vaults supported by half-column piers with capitals carved with floral motifs, human faces, and biblical scenes. These decorative elements tell stories through the craftsmanship of medieval stonemasons.
